Perspectivas temporales, palimpsestos y la arqueología del tiempo

Resumen

Este artículo explora el significado del perspectivismo temporal, su relación con otras teorías sobre el tiempo empleadas en la interpretación arqueológica, y las maneras en las que puede ser implementado a través de un análisis de la naturaleza de palimpsesto del mundo material que habitamos. Los palimpsestos se muestran como un fenómeno universal del mundo material, y como una serie de categorías superpuestas que varían de acuerdo con su escala geográfica, su resolución temporal y su integridad de preservación. Los ejemplos arqueológicos son usados para mostrar cómo diferentes tipos de palimpsesto pueden ser analizados para abordar diferentes tipos de cuestiones respecto a la dimensión temporal de la experiencia humana, así como la relación entre diferentes tipos de procesos y diferentes escalas de fenómenos. Se tratan las objeciones al carácter aparentemente determinista y asocial del perspectivismo temporal, y su aparente desatención a la experiencia subjetiva y la acción y percepción individuales. La línea de pensamiento aquí desarrollada es a su vez utilizada para criticar otros acercamientos a la arqueología del tiempo y las comprensiones convencionales sobre la relación entre pasado, presente y futuro.
