About the Journal
PRÁCTICA ARQUEOLÓGICA is a publication of the Asociación de Arqueólogos Profesionales de la República Argentina (AAPRA). It is a biannual, peer-reviewed digital journal with continuous open access, freely available without any temporal restrictions. The journal publishes original works assessed by peers, addressing one or more of the issues that constitute the focus of contemporary archaeological practice.
It accepts articles, notes, reviews, and original, unpublished interviews in Spanish that fall within related themes. The journal publishes one volume per year, with two issues (released in July and December). These issues include manuscripts on various subjects, with the possibility of adding sections on specific themes.
Contributions are accepted continuously throughout the year. Submissions that are positively evaluated and accepted before May 30th will be included in the year's first issue, and those approved before October 30th will be included in the second annual issue.
THEMATIC SCOPE
In particular, the journal aims to stimulate debate among professionals and students with links to heritage studies, archaeology, and anthropology. Therefore, works addressing the relationships between archaeology and various aspects of society and culture are considered relevant, though not exclusively, such as philosophy, politics, ethics, governance, education, the environment, economics, and management. Examples of these themes may include
- the interaction between archaeologists and various social actors, such as indigenous peoples, local communities, and representatives from the public and private sectors;
- tensions and practices related to archaeological heritage, both within academic-institutional and community contexts;
- rescue, protection, conservation, and enhancement actions related to archaeological heritage;
- methodological aspects and case studies related to impact studies on archaeological assets in different contexts;
- work experiences in public and private settings;
- community outreach projects and public communication of archaeology;
- heritage management and tourism;
- teaching and learning of archaeology and its outcomes at different levels of the educational system;
- the limits and possibilities of professional archaeological practice within the framework of existing legislation;
- the role and actions of scientific societies, associations, and professional organizations.

SECTIONS
The Journal accepts four types of contributions in the form of ARTICLES, NOTES, REVIEWS, and INTERVIEWS, which address, either theoretically or through the presentation of case studies, one or more of the thematic areas of interest. For their preparation, it is necessary to consult the style guide and author guidelines for the construction and submission of manuscripts. Additionally, the journal considers the possibility of publishing compilations of works that focus on specific themes, which will be duly communicated through the journal's channels. These will be published in the form of DOSSIER and may be featured alongside works on free topics. Those wishing to submit a proposal should make a formal request to the Editorial Committee of the Journal via the official email: practicaarqueologica@aapra.org.ar.
PEER REVIEW PROCESS
Manuscripts accepted for evaluation will be sent to a minimum of two (2) specialists in the field, external to the Journal. Evaluations are conducted through double-blind peer review. In the event of discrepancies between the two received opinions, an additional external evaluation will be sought. In addition to the authors' commitment to intellectual honesty, those conducting the evaluations will be requested to identify any instances of plagiarism or self-plagiarism in the reviewed article.
The final decision regarding the publication of contributions will be made based on external reviews (requiring two favorable recommendations) and suggested content and form corrections. Possible recommendations include: ACCEPTED, ACCEPTED WITH MINOR CHANGES, ACCEPTED WITH MAJOR CHANGES, and REJECTED. Evaluation criteria for this process are based on the academic and scientific relevance and originality of the manuscripts.
These evaluations will be communicated to the authors, who will be given a timeframe to address the suggestions or provide written justifications for those not addressed. Corrected manuscripts must be submitted by the authors on the specified dates. Otherwise, the Editorial Committee will decide whether to continue or terminate the evaluation process. Once the corrections have been made and submitted—and if they meet the requirements of the evaluation process—the manuscript will be approved. The production phase begins at that point. After formatting the electronic file in PDF format, the authors will receive the editing proof solely for the purpose of identifying and correcting typographical errors and image quality. Text rewriting will not be permitted at this stage.
The evaluation process typically spans two to four months. Authors will receive a digital copy of their work, identical to what will be available for download on the Journal's portal. All communication between the authors and those evaluating their work will be conducted exclusively through the Editorial Committee.
GENDER PERSPECTIVE AND USE OF INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE
PRÁCTICA ARQUEOLÓGICA adheres to the recommendations of guides and manuals on the use of non-sexist, equal, and/or inclusive language. Accordingly, while not mandatory, the use of the impersonal form and collective nouns that do not denote gender is recommended. The use of the term 'man' in reference to the generic human species is particularly discouraged and can be replaced by terms such as humanity, human beings, individuals, people. For those who do not wish to express themselves within binary gender assignment categories, the use of the vowel 'e' is reserved to create new nouns, adjectives, and articles exclusively in cases where there is no non-binary alternative expression. The use of the consonant 'x' or the character '@' is not accepted, as they hinder oral translation and the auditory reproduction by reading software. The choice of inclusive language form should be consistently maintained throughout the entire text.
