From where is the question asked? Foucault, Esposito, neoliberalism, and biopolitics

In this paper we will be interested in explaining how Foucault's approach to neoliberalism is not centered on neoliberalism as such, but rather on a question that runs through his writings of the time: the liberogenic question. In order to unfold this, we will first address Esposito's critique of the notion of Foucauldian biopolitics, in order to show how this questioning is distorted based on the conceptual framework that Esposito himself seeks to impose on Foucault's mode of questioning. From here, we will develop how the question of the liberogenic runs through not only the analysis of neoliberalism, but also backwards, that of liberalism and the welfare state, and forwards the parrhesiatic question, when thinking about the constitution of the political subject of Antiquity. In conclusion, we will seek to articulate both developments to establish that, both for the concept of biopolitics and for neoliberalism, wanting to account for the Foucauldian position in an unbiased way implies starting from the conditions of possibility from which Foucault himself proposes his approach.
